Days of Service
The Volunteer Center of Story County plans and coordinates large-scale service projects to engage the Story County community in service. Several days have been designated as national days of service, and
others are long-standing days of action in the Story County Community
The VCSC engages young people (under age 25) throughout the county, providing connections to opportunities that spark their passions and address community needs.
This poverty simulation experience is designed to help participants understand what it might be like to be a part of a typical low-income family in Story County trying to survive from month-to-month. The object is to sensitize participants to the realities of life faced by low-income people in our community. The amounts and figures used in the simulation reflect actual average amounts in Story county.
Blast Back to School Fair
Story County Blast Back to School Fair aims to relieve the burden of back to school expenses for local families of K – 12 students in a festive and engaging environment that fosters community relationships.
An engaging, energetic event for Story County children entering grades Kindergarten through 12. Story County Blast Back to School Fair, presented by Storey-Kenworthy, is on August 10, 2018 between 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Ames Middle School.
A partnership effort between the City of Ames, Iowa State University, and local agencies to recycle and repurpose furniture and household items away from the Landfill, Resource Recovery Plant and curbside during move-out weekend. Proceeds from this community-wide sale are divided among the participating local agencies.
