Story County Youth Philanthropists

Story County Youth Philanthropists (SCYP) is a group for high school
students throughout Story County designed to involve youth in meaningful ways in the philanthropic tradition, encourage youth to give and serve in their communities, and to make philanthropy a "habit of the heart" for future generations.

The youth meet twice a month to learn about philanthropy and gain leadership skills. Ultimately, they will grant out $5,000 (set aside by the Story County Community Foundation) to agencies and causes of their choice. This is a joint effort between the Story County Community Foundation and Ames Chamber of Commerce.

The Story County Youth Philanthropists awarded $4,754.80 to Story County non-profit agencies in 2013.
Grants were awarded to:
The Raising Readers in Story County Reach Out and Read program
Youth and Shelter Services Basketball Court
Lutheran Services in Iowa Parents as Teachers literacy program
KHOI Community Radio Production Department
Planned Parenthood Healthy Relationship Decision-Making Program
Huxley Parks and Recreation Berhow Park Bird House Project
