Special Delivery from the White House
In early June, Mitchell students received a package from the White House garden. We opened the box at a Saturday Work Day, and inside were vegetables from the First Lady's garden! The same peas, broccoli and onions that the students planted during their visit in March. Also included were recipes and a chef's hat from White House Chef Sam Kass!

Mitchell Students Paint Garden Mural for Earth Day 2012
To celebrate the role that our community garden plays in making our food system and our world more sustainable, Mitchell students designed and painted a garden-themed mural with the help of community artist Kristin Roach on the school building wall adjacent to our garden.

Mitchell students invited to the White House Garden in DC!
In late March, five Mitchell 2nd graders along with Principal Pam Stangeland and the 2nd grade teachers traveled to DC at the invitation of First Lady Michelle Obama! They joined students from 3 other schools across the country to help Mrs. Obama plant the White House Kitchen Garden. The students received the invitation after writing to the First Lady detailing to efforts to grow and eat healthy foods and live healthy lifestyles at their school. We are so proud of the Mitchell community for making the garden for such a success, and to all of our students who are growing delicious food and healthier lifestyles for themselves and their community!
