Students in Action

Students in Action promotes and supports volunteerism and community service by high school and college students in Story County. Members fulfill school and community service requirements, explore career options, learn new skills, build a positive work ethic, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in the community.

 

Do Good Mixer

Do Good Mixers are people who want to change the world, but don't have all the time in the world. The participate in one-time volunteer opportunties, then socialize as a group afterwards. Great for people new to town, or those who want to get involved with their community.  For people 21 and over. SHARE

SHARE stands for "Self Help and Resource Exchange." The SHARE program is a way to say "thank you" to community volunteers by offering them a changing selection of quality food packages at reduced prices. The only requirement for participating in SHARE is two hours of volunteer service to another person or persons in the community and order placement prior to the monthly order deadline.

The 10,000 Hours Show

The 10,000 Hours Show is a volunteer recruitment and recognition program for young people in Central Iowa. Volunteer just 10 hours in the local community and receive a free concert ticket to see the Cold War Kids on April 9th at the ISU Memorial Union!  For more information on the 10,000 Hours Show, visit http://www.10000hoursci.org/

Youth Philanthropy Council

This is a new council that will start fall of 2009. The council will be made of 15-20 high school students, led by an Iowa State University student. The Story County Community Foundation, Volunteer Center of Story County, and Iowa Council of Foundations are partners and advisors. The students will have the opportunity to learn about philanthropy and grant $5,000 (set aside by the Story County Community Foundation) to local organizations.
